Samson: A Type of Christ
Samson was a man born by the promise of God - Judges 13:3; Matthew 1:18-25
Samson was born a Nazarite just like Jesus – Judges 13:5,7; Matthew 2:23
Samson was live without contact with wine or strong drink to fulfill the Nazarite vow –Numbers 6:1-4; Judges 13:4. We do not know of any incidences that Jesus drank wine outside of the context of the Lord’s Supper.
Samson ate no unclean thing – Judges 13:4; Jesus was in full harmony with His commandments given in the Torah so He did not eat anything that was unclean either. Leviticus 11; Isaiah 42:21
The child Samson grew and was blessed by God, just like Jesus. Judges 13:24; Luke 2:40
Samson’s name means sunlight and Jesus was proclaimed to be like the sun. Luke 1:78-79; Malachi 4:2
Samson did not follow the Lord’s commands to not get married to pagan women, but Jesus was true to His Father and will be wed to His wife the church. Judges 14:3; Ephesians 5:22-33.
Samson was filled with the Spirit of God and Jesus was filled with the Spirit of God. Judges 14:6; Luke 4:1,14
Samson told parables and Jesus told parables. Judges 14:12-14; Matthew 13:3-35
Samson was a judge for the people of God and Jesus was a judge as well. Judges 15:20; John 5:22-30
Samson was betrayed for silver and Jesus was as well. Judges 16:5,18; Zechariah 11:2; Matthew 26:15; 27:1-9
Samson was captured and abused by the Philistines and Jesus was captured and abused by the Jewish leadership. Judges 16:21,25; Luke 9:22
