Egypt – A rich and fertile land to the south of Israel. Egypt was to be the southern boundary of Israel and Babylon the northern boundary Genesis 15:8. Egypt played a role in protecting and supporting Israel in its infancy especially through the gospel ministry of Joseph. Egypt was also a symbol of worldliness, atheism, and persecution in its relationship toward Israel and God’s people. It appears that Egypt and Babylon make a prophetic boundary for Israel as well. Egypt starts the difficulty by making Israel captive in Exodus and Babylon is the last great enemy of spiritual Israel at the end of time. Genesis 15:8 God freed Israel Egypt from start to finish. No monarch ever ventured upon more open and highhanded rebellion against the authority of Heaven than did the king of Egypt. When the message was brought him by Moses, in the name of the Lord, Pharoah proudly answered: "Who is Jehovah, that I should hearken unto His voice to let Israel go? Elect - Those people whom God has been able to induce to choose Him by His calling and His wooing. They have chosen to allow Him to make the changes in their souls until He has produced a remnant, a holy priesthood, a holy nation that will follow Him wherever He goes. Strong’s concordance indicates that election is the process of choosing or selecting or calling to individuals that will respond to Him. This process is most clearly stated in the nation of Israel and their process in Matthew 22:1-14. Israel is called, special messengers are sent to them, they refuse, they are destroyed, and then God turns to the bad and the good to have guests for His wedding. Many are called (elected) but few remain unto the end (Revelation 3:21; 2:25-26). Those who endure to the end will be the elect of God. CO

Election- "Man is elected to work out his own salvation with fear and trembling. He is elected to put on the armor, to fight the good fight of faith. He is elected to use the means God has placed within his reach to war against every unholy lust, while Satan is playing the game of life for his soul. He is elected to watch unto prayer, to search the Scriptures, and to avoid entering into temptation. He is elected to have faith continually. He is elected to be obedient to every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God, that he may be, not a hearer only, but a doer of the word. This is Bible election." TM 453-454

Election- "There was no arbitrary choice on the part of God by which Esau was shut out from the blessings of salvation. The gifts of His grace through Chirst are free to all. There is no election but one’s own by which any may perish. God has set forth in His word the conditions upon which every soul will be elected to eternal life – obedience to His commandments, through faith in Christ. God has elected a character in harmony with His law, and anyone who shall reach the standard of His requirement will have an entrance into the kingdom of glory. Christ Himself said, "He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life." John 3:36. "Not everyone that saith unto Me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of My Father which is in heaven." Matthew 7:21. And in the Revelation He declares, "Blessed are they that do His commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city." Revelation 22:14. As regards man’s final salvation, this is the only election brought to view in the word of God.

Every soul is elected who will work out his own salvation with fear and trembling. He is elected who will put on the armor and fight the good fight of faith. He is elected who will watch unto prayer, who will search the Scriptures, and flee from temptation. He is elected who will have faith continually, and who will be obedient to every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. The provisions of redemption are fee to all; the results of redemption will be enjoyed by those who have complied with the conditions." PP 207-208

Then the disciples understood that he spake unto them of John the Baptist." Matthew 17:10-13. See also Malachi 4:5-6; Matthew 11:7-14; Luke 1:17

Elijah – "It was believed also that before the Messiah’s advent, Elijah would personally appear. This expectation John met in his denial; but his words had a deeper meaning. Jesus afterward said, referring to John, "If ye are willing to receive it, this is Elijah, which is to come." Matthew 11:14, R.V. John came in the spirit and power of Elijah, to do such a work as Elijah did. If the Jews had received him, it would have been accomplished for them. But they did not receive his message. To them he was not Elijah. He could not fulfill for them the mission he came to accomplish." DA 135
