Prophet - that – “The rabbis continued their questioning: “Why baptizest thou then, if thou be not that Christ, nor Elias, neither that prophet?” The words “that prophet” had reference to Moses. The Jews had been inclined to the belief that Moses would be raised from the dead, and taken to heaven. They did not know that he had already been raised. When the Baptist began his ministry, many thought that he might be the prophet Moses risen from the dead, for he seemed to have a thorough knowledge of the prophecies and of the history of Israel.” DA 135 See Deuteronomy 18:15; Acts 3:20-26

Prophets – sons of- “In the accomplishments of this object Samuel gathered companies of young men who were pious, intelligent, and studious. These were called the sons of the prophets.” PP 593

Prophesying in sackcloth – Revelation 11:3 – “During the greater part of the this period (1260 years), God’s witnesses remained in a state of obscurity. The papal power sought to hide from the people the word of truth, and set before them false witnesses to contradict its testimony. When the Bible was proscribed by religious and secular authority; when its testimony was perverted, and every effort made that men and demons could invent to turn the minds of the people from it; when those who dared proclaim its sacred truths were hunted, betrayed, tortured, buried in dungeon cells, martyred for their faith, or compelled to flee to mountain fastnesses, and to dens and caves of the earth—then the faithful witnesses prophesied in sackcloth.” GC 267 This is the reason that this time was called the dark ages. CO

Protestantism - the vital principle of - "…the Puritans had joined themselves together by a solemn covenant as the Lord's free people, "to walk together in all His ways made known or to be made known to them." Here was the true spirit of reform, the vital principle of Protestantism." GC 290

Prudent - "…but he that regardeth reproof is prudent." Proverbs 15:5

Pruning knife – John 15:1 – “And every branch that beareth fruit, He purgeth (prunes) it, that it may bring forth more fruit.” From the chosen twelve who had followed Jesus, one as a withered branch was about to be taken away; the rest were to pass under the pruning knife of bitter trial.” DA 676-677

Psaltery – See Harp

Publican - "Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother. But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established. And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican." Matthew 18:15-17

Purge – A Bible term that means to cleanse, wash, or remove sins both legally and functionally. See Wash, Cleanse

Examples of purging:

When Josiah was 20 years old he began to purge Judah and Jerusalem(symbols of the church) from the high places, images, and groves. He cleansed the land from these abominations. II Chronicles 34:1-7 (purge and cleansed equated)

Things that cause purging:

David asks to be purged with hyssop and he would be clean and wash him and he would be whiter than snow. Psalms 51:7 (Purge, cleanse, and wash equated.)

God will do the purging of rebels and those who transgress against God. He will bring us into the covenant. Ezekiel 20:33-38

God will purge away the dross of Israel. When He is done the church will be called the city of righteousness, the faithful city. Isaiah 1:25-27

God will purge filthiness by the spirit of judgment and burning. Isaiah 4:4

God will purge His people like a refiner of silver that they may offer unto the Lord an offering of righteousness. Malachi 3:3-6

Iniquity is purged by mercy and truth, and by the fear of the Lord men depart from evil. Proverbs 16:6

Must purge out the leaven of malice and wickedness and replace it with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth. I Corinthians 5:6-8

Psalmist asks God to purge our sins for His names sake. Psalms 79:9

The blood of Jesus Christ purges the conscience from dead works and allows us to serve the living God. Hebrews 9:13-14

To purge and cleanse requires blood. Ezekiel 43:20-26; Hebrews 9:22

Things that interfere with purging:

God attempted to purge Israel of her filthiness but she would not cooperate. God would not attempt to do it again until He had punished them with the Babylonian captivity. Ezekiel 24:13

God does not like it when we forget the spiritual history of a place, He does not think that forgetting Him, His leaders, a casual attitude, or an attitude of partying will help purge iniquity. Isaiah 22:8-14

If you know something and do not change you can not purge this evil by sacrifice and offering. God wants us to cooperate with Him. (Context is God talking to Samuel about Eli’s refusal to restrain his sons.) I Samuel 3:11-14

If you refuse to accept the promises of God you will forget that you have been purged and will be blind. II Peter 1:9

Purifying - the soul - "...Those who are uniting with the world are receiving the worldly mold and preparing for the mark of the beast. MA 240

Push – Daniel 11:40 – To attack with the intent to gore, as a bull attempts to kill or maim. Exodus 21:28-36; Daniel 8:4; I Kings 22:11; II Chronicles 18:10. CO
